Joan Scala, passionate about photography and music

The first 25 years of his life were spent in Capellades, a town in Barcelona with an important cultural fabric. He is the little brother of Montse and Núria. Two key people in his life. From them he inherited his musical tastes such as:

The Pretenders, The Cure, Supertramp, among others…

Music is everywhere in his house. His father, a saxophonist, is a great reference

For him, for this reason, at the age of 9, he began studying musical language and clarinet.

Later he would venture with the soprano sax.

Throughout his life he has been part of bands and jazz combos.

The other, photography.

He tells us: “As a person born under the sign of Libra, I like everything related to communication, art, good taste, etc…”

His first steps in photography (1995) are more related to the field of photojournalism.

From 2013 to 2021 he lives some brilliant years in the American West. In Utah he takes a leap forward in his career. He develops more as an artist, he dedicates himself to landscape and nature photography. A before and after in the land of Elvis, Chuck Berry or Bruce Springteen.

At the end of 2021, he tells us:

“The Universe gives me the opportunity to live for the second time in one of the most beautiful places on the planet, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. For me, the Big Bang Vintage Festival was like love at first sight, uniting me with my long-cherished American past.

Joan has been the winner of the festival’s photography contest in this fifth edition of October 2022.

His biggest project is to settle in Gran Canaria both personally and professionally.
