The team that works at the Insular Theatre Hall is the same that belongs to the Cuyas Theatre.
The origins of the Insular Theatre Hall (SIT) are bound to the ones of the Insular Culture Centre (CIC), multidisciplinary space that opened its doors on May of 1987 after the Town Council acquired in 1978 the collective of the Nursing Home of the Congregación de las Hermanitas de Los Ancianos Desamparados and the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, declared a Place of Cultural Interest in the category of Monument.
The intention was to turn it into a spotlight of cultural stimulation in Gran Canaria, bringing public and creators closer and uniting them, through a steady programming, speeches and proposals focused on the visual arts, the photography, the audiovisual, the popular and contemporary music, the poetry, the theatre, the literature and the dance.
After numerous vicissitudes, the collapse in 2002 of part of its structure forced them to close that important equipment.
In 2003, the City Council considered remodelling the hall and making a promotion and exhibition of performing arts, the central focus of their activity.
For that, they started a series of remodelling that after a few periods of openings and closings and at that moment under the scope of the Scenic Arts Foundation from the Canary Islands and of the Music from Gran Canaria, ended in 2017.

In that way, on the 4th of February of 2017, the SIT reopened to the public after one last investment of 220.000 euros to improve the acoustics and the comfort of their facilities, that now, face a new period with more and better resources to satisfy a public increasingly exigent.
