Hall managed by the Canary Islands Government, focused specially on spreading and revitalizing the stage production sector in the islands.
The Guiniguada Theatre was planned on the month of July of the year 1938 and is the work of the architect Antonio Cardona Aragón who studied in the school of Madrid (1922 – 1929), being the author of 26 projects for cinemas between 1930 (Cine Royal) and 1964 (the one in Tarajal, Fuerteventura). The various styles of these projects that go from the academicism-regionalism, to the rationalism to the neocanarian show the figure of the technician that looks after the taste of his clients. That is the case of this building «Avellaneda» for a cinema, flats, two commercial establishments and two offices, where Antonio Cardona fluctuates between the academicism-regionalism of the elevation, with snobbish characteristics in the porch, and the expressionist rationalism for the optician Hernández Guerra, located in ground floor of the building.
At the beginning of the 90s, faced with a shortage of theatres in the city and already owned by the Autonomous Government, it got converted into a theatre (at that time with names like Fernando Alamo and Juan Jose Gil), maintaining the possibility of movie screenings (in the same building it is located the offices of the Las Palmas film archive).
The reopening of the Guiniguada Theatre has generated a regular exhibition of cultural productions, mostly from the Canary Islands, with the objective that the residents and visitors of the island have a space of quality theatrical programming.
The Guiniguada Theatre will contribute to the growth and the prestige of the professionals of the Scenic Arts and Audiovisuals providing a necessary space for it. A growth and prestige that will be, without a doubt, the driving forces of the identity and image of Canarias; tools for the economic development and also the touristic attraction facing the international effect of the named cultural tourism.
