This initiative is a continuation of the main project “ACTIVA-T A LA VIDA”
At the end of this project, the participating women will create an association whose purpose is to integrate different colectives to empower women and to provide social inclusiveness.
The Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria started this initiative that covers many different ludic and sport activities for 16 women in the ages of 30 until 78 which will take place in October, November and December.
The City Counsellor for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities, Mari Carmen Reyes, assured; “we recognize how positive is to continue with this project in order to give empowerment and social inclusion to women through the development of new activities”. She also said “These workshops are designed as ludic and sport activities to build community spirit between the participating women, to learn about ecological and environmental issues, acquire new skills and to value a healthy lifestyle”.
This project will be celebrated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the last three months of the year, from 10.00 to 12.00 am. The group will count with 16 participants accompanied by two monitors and two public officials from the Area of Equality.
The participating women will carry out some sport and ludic activities such as climbing, hiking through heritage routes, cleaning beaches and ravines, diving, snorkel, traditional sports, first aid programs, biking, canoeing, lateen sailing or boat trips around the city bay.
These activities will take place in many different locations of the city: Playa de las Canteras, La Laja, el Confital or San Cristóbal, Guiniguada’s ravine, natural swimming pools and outdoor fitness park of the municipality.
The participating women have decided to found an association at the end of the project whose purpose is to integrate different collectives, always focused on empowering women and providing social inclusiveness.
This association, which will be directed by the own participants, will arrange similar activities they performed during the “ACTIVA-T” and “Súbete al tren de la vida” projects opened to those men, women, kids, ederly people or people with disabilities who like to participate in.
This organization will include sensitization and education workshops about equality, environment or sexual diversity in many educational centres.
