8 PIES ASSOCIATION: ART, CULTURE, EDUCATION AND ESPECIALLY GAMES

Ocho Pies is a cultural and socio-educational project that was born in 2016 in Gran Canaria. Since then, hundreds of events and proposals have been scheduled for all audiences, but with special attention to early childhood, adapting spaces and proposals for their full enjoyment.

Art, Culture, Education and Play are the backbones of this project that was initially an itinerant but that since 2019 has opened its doors in the vicinity of Los Giles, Las Palmas GC. Providing artistic tools, generating spaces for creation, giving access to Culture with capital letters, Music or Theater, in diaphanous spaces and adapted to all ages are some of the challenges and facts that Ocho Pies has raised throughout its history; his voyage.

Throughout these years, the Game, Freedom, outdoor spaces and Nature have had a special presence. The mixture of these elements has provided us with unforgettable moments and fundamental keys to continue investigating and advancing.

Betting on identity and roots when it comes to programming, the development of the Radio Ocho Pies program or promoting La Caja de Resistencia Familiar, some lines of work committed to the space and society in which this project is integrated have also been marked out. it has a social aspect.

Loris Malaguzzi said that “it is necessary that we be convinced, we adults before anyone else, that children are not only holders of rights, but bearers-sd of their own culture. That they are holders of a capacity to develop culture, who can build their culture, and of contaminating ours”. And at Ocho Pies we follow the trail of childhood, to learn from it, to guide us and keep walking.
